Abstract: |
An Archaeological Watching brief of groundworks on land at Top Yard Silverwood Farm, Thistleton, Rutland was undertaken by ULAS on behalf of Harry Barclay Farms. The initial groundworks comprised the removal of topsoil, ground reduction and the excavation of new foundations for a new corn store. Attendance at the site occurred from the 16th to the 22th November 2010. The watching brief revealed a network possible ditches containing 2nd century Roman pottery and is located on edge of the known Roman town at Thistleton. These are similar to cultivation trenches found on other Midlands sites excavated for grapevines. The archive will be deposited with Rutland County Council Museum under Accession No. OAKRM :2008.52. |
