Abstract:
In accordance with Planning Policy Statement 5: Planning for the Historic Environment, Policy HE12.3 (DCLG 2010) an archaeological investigation (Strip, Plan and Record) was carried out by University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) on land adjacent to The Bungalow, 22, Main Street, Stathern, Leicestershire (SK 7717 3103). The site had been identified as an area of archaeological potential; the site lies within the historic medieval and post-medieval settlement core of Stathern and also lies on the street frontage on an area shown as undeveloped land in the late 19th century. An area was stripped of topsoil and subsoil at the eastern edge of the site along the street frontage and no archaeological features were observed a further area to the north of the bungalow was stripped to subsoil and overlain with hardcore. The rest of the site was then stripped of topsoil and subsoil. No archaeological features were observed. The archive for the site will be deposited with Leicestershire County Council with accession number X.A2.2011.
