Abstract:
This Archaeological and Heritage Desk-Based Assessment has been prepared to inform a store development proposal in Ledbury. The only recorded archaeological site within the development area is a sherd of medieval pottery in the south of site. This sherd is likely to result from manuring of the site in this period. The other test pits and evaluation trench within the site from previous assessment did not identify any archaeological remains. The development site is anticipated to have been in agricultural use in antiquity, based on its location on the margins of the town, close to the river and liable to flooding. It remained in agricultural use until the 1990s when the industrial development occurred. The previous construction and levelling of site for the existing development is anticipated to have truncated any archaeological remains that may have been present on the site. There is considered to be a negligible potential for previously unrecorded archaeological remains. If any remains were to be found it is most likely they would be of agricultural origin and have a low-negligible value. No further work is recommended
