Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment was undertaken on land at Furness General Hospital as a pre-planning requirement to be incorporated within an Environmental Assessment of the site. The results found that the close proximity of Furness Abbey was of particular interest, and that the land had remained undeveloped, in spite of the late and great expanse of the town of Barrow during the late Victorian period. This meant a possible survival of pre-postmedieval features on site and an evaluation was recommended to fully assess the archaeological potential of the land. |
