Abstract:
An archaeological excavation was carried out by GCCAS to the rear of 56-70 Greet Road between November 2007 and March 2008 and produced evidence for several phases of middle to late Iron Age and Romano-British settlement. A subsequent programme of evaluation to the immediate north by John Moore Heritage Services, in 2009, identified a continuation of this settlement, part of which was subsequently scheduled as Romano-British villa 170m south-west of Winchcombe School, Greet Road, Winchcombe, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire (SM 21700). Due to the developer of the GCCAS site being declared bankrupt no funding was available for the completion of the post-excavation programme and English Heritage subsequently provided funding for the completion of the post-ex, including a review of the results of the JMHS evaluation. The project - The completion of the post-excavation analysis and reporting of archaeological evaluation and excavation at Greet Road, Winchcombe, Gloucestershire (NHPP 6476MAIN) - resulted in the production of a full report and a summary report which has been submitted for publication.
