Abstract: |
From 3 to 5 March 2014, GUARD Archaeology Ltd undertook a geophysical survey of outer ward of Wark Castle, Northumberland on behalf of the Flodden 1513 Ecomuseum. The survey, which was carried out as part of the Flodden 500 project, aimed to assess evidence for the past human use of the site, gauge its archaeological sensitivity and the locate targets for potential future intrusive fieldwork. The survey recorded what appear to be linear and curvilinear defensive works within the outer ward of the castle, as well as a path leading westwards from the outer ward to the medieval St Giles' Chapel. The remains of a boat house and three other possible structures were also located. |
