Abstract: |
Building recording and watching brief during conversion works at Priory House Dunstable. The earliest part of the building comprises a medieval open hall above a vaulted ground floor. During the 18th century the building was extensively re-modelled and extended. By the 19th century Priory House was used as both a home and a straw hat factory. Details of the medieval structure were observed, including an arched opening. The building contains good examples of fixtures and fittings dating from the 18th century and some limited evidence for its use as a straw hat factory. No significant archaeological deposits were encountered during the monitoring of service trenches. |
