Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report Abstract:	Archaeological watching brief carried out by Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd on 11 April 2011 on five foundation pits for new traffic signs along the B6318, the Military Road, in Northumberland. Two were sited to the west of Halton Shields at Stanley Plantation, the other three to the east at East Wallhouses. Sandstone rubble exposed in the base of three of the pits monitored at East Wallhouses may have been related to Hadrian's Wall, possibly demolition material, but equally the deposits could have been of post-medieval or even modern origin.
