Abstract:
This archaeological and cultural heritage desk based assessment was prepared on behalf of British Telecommunications Plc in support of a full planning application for a four turbine wind farm at Wingates Moor Farm. The site is primarily agricultural land located the west of Longhorsley, Northumberland. A 1km study area was chosen for non-designated sites and no World Heritage Sites, Scheduled Monuments, Registered Parks and Gardens or Registered Battlefields nearby. Three Listed Buildings are located within 2km. Given the consistently agricultural use of the site and the recorded archaeology from the surrounding area the potential for previously unrecorded archaeological remains is low. A site walkover survey was undertaken adn identified limited denuded ridge and furrow remains. Part of the site was formerly quarried and has been reinstated. Wingates Moor Farm contains a Listed Building and several ancillary buildings and is therefore considered to be of high heritage value. A geophysical survey was proposed to assess the potential within the site for previously unrecorded archaeological remains.
