Abstract: |
An archaeological trench evaluation was carried out by AC archaeology during June 2011 on land at Mile End, Newton Abbot, Devon. The evaluation comprised the excavation of 50 trenches with a combined length of 2500m. A small number of linear features (ditches and gullies) associated with former land division and drainage management was identified, with the majority of these depicted as boundaries on 19th century historic maps. Many of the ditches occurred in pairs, with these likely to represent flanking ditches either side of a former hedgebank. The only stratified finds recovered were from one former boundary ditch, with these comprising pottery and clinker of post-medieval date. |
