Abstract: |
An architectural assessment of the former Polsham Arms Inn, Paignton, Torbay, was prepared to accompany a planning application for proposed conversion to residential use. The building is first documented as a house in 1840, but contains 18th-century architectural features. However, its plan form is indicative of an earlier vernacular cross passage and two or three room house. In the 1850s the building was extended and converted into a public house. One part of this extension survives later remodelling. At this date the first floor was reordered. The ground floor comprises large open plan bars with modern partitions; very few historic fixtures and fittings survive. |
