Abstract:
An archaeological assessment for seven fields located to the immediate east of Trevithick Manor, and west of Higher Trevilley on the southern edge of Newquay, in addition to a slither of land referred to as field 8 in the geophysical survey report. The project was carried out by Historic Environment Projects, Cornwall Council, and is the result of a desk-top study, geophysical survey and walkover survey. It identifies/evaluates the archaeological resource , provides initial guidance on potential impacts, and recommends further archaeological work. Development within the study area would affect 51 sites, with evidence for prehistoric activity, including an oval enclosure - associated entrance works, boundaries and field system elements, plus a number of potential roundhouses, also medieval field boundaries, post-medieval structures - none extant, and part of the former GWR Newquay/Chacewater line plus a blocked bridge.
