Abstract: |
A small area excavation investigated the part of the site where medieval features had been found during an evaluation. A small number of medieval pits were recorded, including one large pit which had been backfilled with iron slag. A medieval boundary ditch was also observed. This appears to have been partially recut before being deliberately backfilled with iron slag. Another linear feature, close to the present Brighton Road, is shown on a map dating from 1839 but not on one from 1874. The remainder of features exposed were modern. |
