Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was conduced in response to the proposal to demolish the office building and construct student flats. The stratigraphic evidence suggested that the site was used as a quarry, possibly at the time the railway was constructed. Three pits were revealed containing building debris and worked and un-worked stone fragments, which were likely to have come from the Rattee & Kett's masons yard that was formerly located on the opposite side of the Purbeck road.
