Abstract:
The farm was located on the course of Hadrian's Wall, and much of the development fell within the boundary of the Scheduled Ancient Monument. Groundwork at the site revealed a number of features, including two possible sections of Hadrian's Wall located close to the ground surface. A number of post-medieval features were encountered, including a substantial yard surface and several boundary walls. The foundations of a demolished 20th century barn were also recorded. Given the archaeological importance of the site it was recommended that the wall remains were preserved in situ and any other work at the site was subjected to archaeological monitoring. [Au(adp)]
