Abstract:
In January and February 2013, Foundations Archaeology undertook a programme of archaeological evaluation on land at Trequite Farm, Liskeard, Cornwall. The project comprised the excavation and recording of 23 trenches across a proposed development area, in order to test and refine the results of a previous geophysical survey. The evaluation, in conjunction with the geophysical survey, has identified two areas within the site which contain significant archaeological remains. Evidence for multiple phases of archaeological activity, possibly associated with at least two enclosures, was present within Fields 1 and 2 (Trenches 3, 4 and 5), at the northwest of the site. Artefactual evidence indicated that this activity had the potential to span the later Prehistoric, Roman and Medieval periods. The Medieval activity was associated with evidence for metal working. A well preserved probable Middle Bronze Age terraced platform, which possibly contained a structure, such as a roundhouse, was present in Field 3 (Trench 11). Numerous undated former agricultural boundaries were present across the site.
