Abstract: |
A communtiy archaeological excavation of the ruined medieval site of Halton Castle. Two trenches were opened in the outer bailey to investigate remains of possible stables and other outbuildings. Evidence of a 1m thick tower wall, several rock-cut post holes and channels were found along with 2 inhumations and large quantites of medieval pottery. All work was carried out by volunteers and school children under the supervision of Salford Archaeology Staff. |
