Abstract:
South West Archaeology Ltd. was asked to undertake a desk-based cartographic research and walkover survey on land adjacent to Woodland Meadow, Trethowel, Cornwall. The site is located on 19th century industrially developed land north of St Austell. It was part of the Higher Blowing House clay works and was developed in the 20th century with settling tanks and drags. The site is of local interest but not of regional or national importance given its condition or comparable equivalents in the region. It will not impact on the enclosed setting of nearby Listed or unlisted heritage assets. No buried archaeological remains are expected to have survived the industrial development of the site. If the site were fully cleared of vegetation a comprehensive photographic record may be of interest but otherwise no further archaeological works are recommended for this site. The retention of the northern boundary wall would preserve the oldest standing structure on the site and add to the screening of the property.
