Abstract: |
The report presents the results of a magnetometry survey of two small areas of land at Calderstones Park, Allerton, Liverpool. The park takes its name from the Calderstones, six carved red sandstone blocks which were probably originally part of a Neolithic burial mound which was destroyed in the early 19th century. The geophysical survey aimed to assess the archaeological potential of two areas which are proposed as new locations for the stones which are currently sited within greenhouses within the park. The survey results suggest that the lawned area to the front of Calderstones Mansion has some potential for the presence of archaeological deposits, namely post-holes and small pits. The area to the rear of the house seems to have a lower potential though this may be at least in part because of the slightly different survey method used in that area. |
