Abstract:
This report presents the results of an archaeological evaluation undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group on behalf of Murray Estates Lothian Limited and River Forth Fisheries ahead of the development of land at West Edinburgh, known as 'Land East of Millburn Tower' and to allow the construction of a new river channel to the west of the A720 to bypass the culverted section of the watercourse through the Edinburgh Park development. The development area totaled 53.99 ha The evaluation consisted of the machine trenching of 14,700m². The proposed development was situated in an area of undulating, improved agricultural land and substantial colluvial deposits were encountered within the lower lying areas. Significant archaeological features were encountered in the form of a ring-ditch/groove structure, two pit features and several linear field boundaries. The majority of these features were of probable prehistoric date.
