Abstract: |
A watching brief was conducted during groundbreaking works for the electrical connection required for the ongoing housing development at Pinkie Mains, Musselburgh along Inveresk Road and the eastern end of Lewisvale Public park. For the most part, along Inveresk Road the cable trench followed the line of a pre-existing cast iron waterpipe trench, part of previous watermain renewals. Where the trench deviated from this line, modern deposits were visible underneath the road construction layers, and contained nothing of archaeological significance. One deposit, 006, overlying the natural sand, may be of interest, containing animal bone, oyster shell and flecks of charcoal. A sample was taken from this deposit, but no further archaeologically significant information could be gained from this deposit in the field. The reception pit in Lewisvale Public Park revealed nothing of archaeological significance. |
