Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in October 2015 on land at Staplegrove (East), Taunton, Somerset. A total of thirty-one trenches was excavated. The evaluation identified archaeological remains dating to the Prehistoric and post-medieval and/or modern periods. Evidence for probable Early Neolithic activity (a pit and a ditch) was identified in the northern and eastern parts of the site. A probable ring ditch and a group of six probable cremations were identified in the western part of the site. These features dated to the Early to Middle Bronze Age. A number of post-medieval/modern field boundaries and furrows were also identified across site. Many of the investigated features remain undated but it is possible that some of these features date to the prehistoric and/or Roman periods. |
