Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken at Home Farm, Beckford, Worcestershire (NGR SO 9810 3599). It was commissioned by BB Architecture and Planning Ltd, on behalf of English Care Villages who intends to redevelop the site as a care home for which a planning application will be submitted. The proposed development site lies close to a regionally significant Iron Age settlement site which was identified during quarrying in the 1960s and 1970s. One trench was excavated on the edge of the known extent of the quarrying to test whether archaeological or natural deposits survived. The only deposits identified in the trench were related to infilling the quarry, or the area's subsequent use, confirming that this part of the site had been quarried. Three other intended trenches could not be excavated due to the presence of live services and other constraints. Further work in other parts of the site may be required to establish the full extent of quarrying across the site, and the impact of the buildings on the potential archaeological resource in areas where quarrying did not take place. |
