Abstract: |
Covington is a small hamlet at the junction of Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire. This was a 'Big Dig' type event with the aims of locating evidence of medieval or earlier human activity, putting into practice skills learnt and involving as many residents as possible. Ten test pits were dug in the village, more or less at random. Two features were found along with finds dating from medieval or earlier to twentieth century. Most finds were of general habitation nature, with the exception of two nineteenth century French coins. Interpretation would indicate that the medieval village was south of the current centre. |
