Abstract:		 Headland Archaeology (UK) Ltd conducted a trial-trench archaeological evaluation on land at Westinghouse Sports Ground, Chippenham, as part of a programme of archaeological evaluative works carried out in response to a condition placed on planning consent for the redevelopment of the site. Trial trenching revealed very little archaeological evidence for past activity, with the majority of the trenches simply consisting of topsoil overlying subsoil over the undisturbed geological horizon. The only variation to this was in Trench 6, where there was evidence for a previous 20th century asphalt surface. Aside from this, no finds or features of archaeological interest were uncovered.
