Abstract: |
A detailed gradiometry survey was conducted over approximately 57 hectares of agricultural land. A number of features of archaeological origin have been identified and include likely former enclosures and evidence of settlement activity of possible Roman origin. Further linear anomalies and pit features may be archaeological in origin, but may also be related to more recent agricultural activity or be natural. A number of former field boundaries, evidence of ridge and furrow and modern ploughing suggests the site has a more recent agricultural past. The former course of Black Brook has been identified, along with areas of made ground. The remaining features are modern in origin and include underground services, a trackway, land drains, scattered magnetic debris, and magnetic disturbance from nearby ferrous objects. |
