Abstract: |
A detailed gradiometry survey was conducted over approximately 14ha of agricultural land located to the north east of Codford St Mary in Wiltshire. The data collected has identified several linear responses indicative of former cut and banked features of probable archaeological origin. While these appear to follow the general trend of the recorded former field system, they do not correlate precisely. Further positive and negative anomalies are observed which may also be of archaeological interest. Discrete anomalies indicative of in-filled pits are also noted and may be of archaeological origin, however as they are spread across a wide area, a natural origin should not be discounted. Modern activity on the site is evident through multiple phases of agricultural activity, a modern pipe or service and magnetic spikes indicative of ferrous material. |
