Abstract: |
In January 2016 Archaeological Solutions (AS) carried out an archaeological test pit of an area to the rear of 6 High Street, Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire. This was undertaken in mitigation of a condition attached to planning permission for the demolition of the existing extensions behind No 6. The test pit revealed a 19th century brick built structure with a brick floor and a small brick arch, with later structural modifications incorporating buttresses. It is probable that this structure may relate to one of the buildings shown to the rear of Nº6 on the 1879 and 1898 OS maps. |
