Abstract:		 The archaelogical watching brief monitored the groundworks for a new single storey building to accommodate a new swimming pool. The monitored groundworks comprised ground reduction of an area of the new build footprint. This identified a modern and imported topsoil which extended over the whole monitored area. Within part of the eastern portion of the area of ground reduction were the remains of former cow pens, recently demolished. Their remains comprised a floor surface/demolition horizon and an internal brick built dividing wall/foundation. To the west, the monitoring identified a succession of former farmyard surfaces, two of which were modern and the third, and earliest, possibly of late 19th/early 20th century origin. This earliest farmyard surface in turn overlay a possible post-medieval ploughsoil horizon, whichc was in turn above a natural horizon of silty clays. In the light of the absence of any archaeological activity on this site, and following consultation with the local planning authority archaeologist, it was agreed that the monitoring of the reamining groundworks would not be necessary. No archaeological features, deposits or finds associated with the medieval and post-medieval settlements of Frampton were found.
