Abstract:
A desk-based study supported by magnetometer and resitivity surveys was undertaken to assess the archaeological implication of the proposed construction of an office and cold storage unit on land north of Wash Road. Documentary research identified that the development area lay immediately to the west of Bozon Hall (part of a moated complex built in c. 1377, and its post-medieval succesor) whilst the magnetometer survey succesfully identified eight magnetic anomalies, three of which were of archaeological potential. These comprised a strong signal indicative that the anomaly lay just below the modern surface or was related to an episode of burning; a localised anomaly possibly indicative of a pit; and a sub-rectangular anomaly located directly west of the area of the moated manor house which was demolished in the 1970's.
