Abstract: |
A desk-based study supported by gridded field-walking and a magnetometer survey was undertaken as a condition of outline planning permission for a scheme of residential development on land to the north of Church Road. The study identified that the potential of the site was high with deposits relating to the Saxo-Norman, medieval and post-medieval period probably being present beneath the modern topsoil. The pottery assemblage recovered during fieldwalking was dominated by fabric types dating to the mid-17th century. Magnetometry identified a number of localised anomalies possibly representing pits forming a linear cluster and a series of linear features probably relating to a rectilinear enclosure system.
