Abstract: |
Evaluation excavation was undertaken on the site following a desktop study and geophysical survey. Excavation of three trenches revealed the remains of a number of stone-built structures, as well as areas of small-scale activity indicated by hearths and pits, of medieval and later date, immediately below the topsoil. The limited size of the excavations made interpretation difficult but a semi-circular wall in trench 1 was of particular interest given the location of the site opposite the parish church and close to a medieval priory.
