Abstract: |
The evaluation was undertaken prior to the development of the Macefen By-Pass on the A41. Evidence recorded from the excavation of six trial trenches, indicated that archaeological remains survived in the study zone and that these were remnants of a house and smithy that were recorded on a Tithe Map of 1838. Material located within this complex, including four large worked sandstone blocks and a single sherd of pottery suggested that the site may have had origins earlier than that indicated in the cartography. Trenching suggested that the extent of the archaeological material covered a 25m x 20m area in the south of the study zone. [Au(adp)] |
