Abstract: |
The excavations and geophysical survey in a field that was known to have a Romano-British villa uncovered a succession of walls, representing five rooms. Evidence from the trenches indicated that these Romano-British buildings were situated on a previous Late Iron Age occupation site: in this connection, it was noted that the area is known locally as 'Blacklands'. Little pottery or other datable material was found in the buildings. The occupation evidence suggested the building increased in size and grandeur but was abandoned sometime in the fourth century.
