Abstract:
A total of 172 trenches were excavated within the proposed development area. The evaluation identified archaeological deposits throughout the western part of the site with very limited evidence of activity within the eastern part of the site. Activity dating from the Bronze Age to the modern period was represented, with evidence of occupation from the Late Iron Age and throughout the Roman period, including possible structures. Features associated with late medieval and post-medieval land use were also recorded. Included were Roman ditches indicative of enclosures, a possible Roman building, Iron Age ditches indicative of enclosures, ditches that contained prehistoric artefacts and ditches and quarry pits of likely late medieval/post-medieval date.
