Abstract:		 An archaeological evaluation was carried out by GUARD Archaeology Limited at The Grange, Monifeith on behalf of Taylor Wimpey on a site proposed for residential development. The trial trench evaluation consisted of a series of 79 trenches 50 m in length and one trench 17.5 m in length totalling 5% of the total area proposed for development. Several features of archaeological significance were encountered during the evaluation, consisting of eight pit and post-hole features and one small spread features. Fills ranges from silts with some charcoal to charcoal rich burnt material with heat cracked stones. These were located in four separate trenches across the central and eastern areas of the site, mostly on more raised ground. Prehistoric material culture including ceramic and lithic was recovered from some feature fills, suggesting likely prehistoric activity in at least three of these areas.
