Abstract:
An archaeological evaluation and Level 1 (Basic) Historic Building Recording (HBR) was carried out by GUARD Archaeology Limited at Shott Farm, High Blantyre. These measures were aimed at addressing conditions related to Planning Application HM/14/0491 on an area of land surrounding the present farm buildings, proposed for a residential development, associated landscaping and the formation of an access point. The proposed trial trench evaluation was to sample 8% (5200 m²) of the development (10.265 ha). The total area was reduced to 95,249 m² due to the presence of underground and overhead services within the development area. A total of 52 trenches, which varied in length between 45 m and 56 m, were excavated across the site. No archaeological features or finds were located during the work programme except a pit containing modern detritus in trench 27, rig and furrow cultivation and field drainage relating to agricultural improvements.
