Abstract: |
Headland Archaeology Ltd was commissioned by WSP Group to undertake a watching brief on site investigations at Glasgow Meat Market, Duke Street, Glasgow. The ground investigations comprised 13 trial pits excavated to determine the characteristics and depths of underlying deposits. In seven of the trial pits sub-surface remains were observed consisting of ceramic pipes, concrete floor surfaces and concrete posts, which relate to the structures associated with the Glasgow Meat and Cattle Market which was demolished in the late 1980s. The presence of such remains indicates that sub-surface remains survive on the site, with the potential for more archaeology associated with the Meat Market to be uncovered. |
