Abstract:
The volume reflects the twin aims of analysing the physical entity of the Clava Cairns whilst attempting to define the ideas which that entity was meant to express.  Detailed examination of their local setting produces a picture of the cairns constructed at the heart of a domestic landscape and the chronological reappraisal prompted by the results of radiocarbon dating places them in the wider burial and ritual scenery of the Early and Later Bronze Ages.
