Abstract: |
Two evaluation trenches were excavated on the site of the former Duke of Clarence public house and ancillary buildings in advance of redevelopment. The known locations of Roman roads and a Roman cemetery nearby are reflected by presence of an Archaeological Priority Zone adjacent to the current site. The evaluation trenches revealed modern demolition deposits over a topsoil/subsoil horizon, beneath which was natural London clay. No archaeological features were recorded. |
