Abstract:		 Wessex Archaeology carried out an evaluation to discharge a condition attached to planning permission for redevelopment as residential flats. The evaluation was required because of the site's proximity to known archaeological remains; Roman pottery was found c.600m to the north and more substantial remains of Roman date, including possible buildings, have been recorded some 200m to the north-east. A single trench was excavated, in which a sequence of modern demolition/builders' rubble over undated subsoil over natural sandy gravels and sandy clay was recorded. No archaeological features or deposits were observed, nor were any finds recovered,
