Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out by Wessex Archaeology as part of a planning application on behalf of Tesco Stores. Only five of eight proposed trenches were excavated because of the presence of live services; three trenches contained no archaeological features. Linear features, known from aerial photographs, were found in the two trenches in the south-eastern part of the site, but no evidence for their date or function was recorded; the nature of the feature fills suggests that they may be of fairly recent date. No finds indicative of nearby archaeological activity were recovered. Modern disturbance and evidence of ground remodelling/landscaping to a depth of 0.8m below ground level occurs across the site. |
