Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology carried out a proactive observation recording exercise (watching brief) during the excavation of two trenches for stairwells and the removal of a floor slab. All observed deposits appeared to be of modern origin and almost certainly represent levelling deposits and dumps from the banks of the nearby river, possibly into a mill pond and associated with the construction of the eastern wing of the Old Mill shown on the earliest (1870s) Ordnance Survey maps. |
