Abstract: |
Transport for London (TfL) has been tasked with implementing the Cycle Hire Scheme within central London by summer 2010. Approximately 10, 200 docking points at around 400 sites at a density of approximately nine sites per square kilometre are required. An Archaeological Impact Assessments was carried out, for sites where it was deemed necessary, to identify if further archaeological investigation would be required. A generic Written Scheme of Investigation was written for all sites requiring further archaeological investigation. Docking station 01/615103 was deemed to need further archaeological investigation. Initially 3 trail pits were excavated along the length of the docking station footprint. No archaeological features were observed within these trial pits and concrete was observed down to formation level. The trail pits showed that concrete would be present down to formation level along the whole footprint of the docking station therefore further archaeological monitoring of the groundworks was deemed unnecessary. |
