Abstract: |
In September 2013 Archaeological Research Services Ltd were commissioned by DTA to undertake an archaeological evaluation and watching brief at the Church of Our Lady, Seaton Delaval, Northumberland. The church dates from the early 12th century, but probably retains elements of earlier masonry. It is a Grade I Listed Building and lies within the Grade II* Registered Seaton Delaval Park. The evaluation and watching brief were carried out in order to facilitate investigations into the cause of structural movement within the church. This included investigations of the church's drainage system and foundations, as well as investigations of ground conditions, with particular reference to possible undermining. |
