Abstract: |
In May 2013, in accordance with the NPPF (2012), a programme of archaeological evaluation (trial-trenching) took place on farmland at Hemswell Cliff, Lincolnshire (centred on NGR: SK 956 916). The evaluation, commissioned by RSK on behalf of RWE NPower Renewables Ltd., was conducted in accordance with a Written Scheme of Investigation approved by Lincolnshire County Council (LCC). The results will be used to inform a planning application for a windfarm development. The evaluation produced good evidence for Roman occupation across parts of the site in the form of enclosure ditches, pits and structures dating from the late 1st to the 4th century, with an emphasis on the 3rd and 4th centuries AD. Two additional trenches, dug in early 2014 to evaluate an alternative site for the windfarm's compound area, proved negative. |
