Abstract:
The excavation of four evaluation trenches was undertaken at the site of the former HP Foods factory on land to the south of Whitehorse Lane, Boston, Lincolnshire. The trenching confirmed a sequence of demolition and made ground deposits seen during monitoring of trial pits in September 2006. This comprised the remains of the recently demolished HP Foods factory and the former 19th century or earlier shipyard buildings, and phases of soil and refuse dumping dating from the 15th century (probably as deliberate reclamation). It remained unclear whether the earliest evidence of human activity on the site had been identified.
