Abstract:		 A geophysical (magnetometer) survey, covering 10.5 hectares of land to the south of Great Glen was carried out to inform the submission of a planning application for the proposed development of a crematorium and burial site. The site lies within a landscape containing a variety of site types from prehistoric, Roman and medieval periods. No anomalies of obvious archaeological potential have been identified by the survey although ridge and furrow regimes, and a probable former field boundary, are thought to relate to a medieval open field system. A programme of fieldwalking undertaken upon completion of the survey recovered 112 sherds of medieval pottery with the main concentration focused towards the historic medieval core of Great Glen. A single sherd of Roman Samian ware was also recovered. On the basis of these investigations, the archaeological potential of the site is considered to be low.
