Abstract:
The report describes an open settlement of Late Prehistoric/Romano British character centred on the pastures of Hagg Farm, Fremington, near Reeth in Swaledale. The settlement complex comprises nine small separate farmsteads located at intervals within a contemporary coaxial field system on rising ground above the Swale flood plain The field system is strongly defined by lynchetted or stone banked field boundaries aligned at right angles to the slope The report is a precursor to further investigation of features and individual sites warranting more intensive study [See also 1997 Hagg Farm report by EDAS and subsequent Hagg Farm reports by SWAAG/ASDU]
