Abstract: |
Geoarchaeological borehole investigations were carried out at the site revealed a sequence of Pleistocene Gravels overlain by Holocene Alluvium (including Peat) capped by Made Ground. Deposit modelling of the new and existing borehole records indicated the presence of two west-north-west to east-south-east channels were present towards the west and central areas of the site. An environmental archaeological assessment of three borehole sequences revealed the Holocene Alluvium accumulated between the late Mesolithic/early Neolithic and Bronze Age cultural periods. An assessment of the pollen, diatom and macrofossil content was carried out indicating a floodplain environment dominated by alder carr, whilst mixed deciduous woodland occupied the dryland. No definitive indications of human activity were recorded. |
